Queensland Prescribers
Alternative therapeutics can be prescribed via the Special Access Scheme (SAS), Authorised Prescriber (AP) pathway or as a compounded product. SAS is a pathway which allows certain health professionals to prescribe therapeutic goods that are not registered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) for a single patient.
The Authorised Prescriber pathway is used by health professionals that are approved to prescribe unapproved therapeutic goods for a certain class or condition of patients in their immediate care without needing the TGA’s approval.
Compounded products are made from Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). These can be mixed into different formulas depending on a patients unique requirements, or when a finished good is out of stock or discontinued. Compounding regulations differ from state to state with TGA and State Health approvals being required in some but not others. Prescribers and Pharmacists should check their state requirements before prescribing and dispensing alternative therapeutics.
By registering a Canview account, you can utilise the platform in patient consultations to brows alternative therapeutics and filter them by price, conditions, effects, formulations, or suppliers. You will also receive exclusive access to free clinical resources and educational tools to help you prescribe and consult with confidence.
